Hesitation Engine
Four litres of ferrofluid suspended over a grid of 256 programmable electromagnets. The surface hesitates — rising toward a shape, abandoning it, trying again.
We shape magnetic liquid into living form. Sculpture that breathes, spikes, and remembers the field that made it.
A kinetic sculpture studio, working since 2019.

A two-metre column of oil-dark liquid held vertical against gravity, its skin rippling in slow nine-second breaths. Permanent installation, Marfa.
The field of a single neodymium sphere, made visible at 40× scale. Viewers report the uncomfortable sense of seeing something that was always in the room.
Commissioned corporate piece that refuses to behave. The fluid tracks foot traffic through floor sensors and bristles when the lobby empties.
“Ferrofluid is the only material that shows you the invisible. Every spike is a field line you were standing inside all along.”— Studio founding note, 2019
We take on four commissions a year — installations, lobbies, private collections, and things we are not allowed to describe.
